Description
(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO THE
TREATMENT OF COLUMNS OF RUBBISH CHUTES
(71) We, FRANCOIS TOURNADE a
French citizen of 197, Rue du Faubourg
Saint-Denis, 75010 Paris, France and
CLAUDE BORDET a French citizen of 144,
Rue Roger Salengro, 93700 Drancy,
France, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a Patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: - The invention relates to apparatus permitting disinfecting, deodorising and possibly the removal of insects, in a continuous manner, of and from columns of the kind used in rubbish chutes laundry chutes and ventilation shafts.
The aforementioned columns, and especially those of rubbish chutes are, in general, the seat of an intense development of disagreeable odours, of microorganisms pathogenic or not, and also sometimes insects.
The intermittent cleaning and disinfecting of these columns, each month, or often at much longer intervals, is clearly insufficient from a hygenic point of view and the necessity of a continuous treatment of these columns is obvious.
The apparatus according to the invention allows the realisation of this continuous treatment, by the evaporation of a solution of an active product and the circulation of vapours of this active product through the interior of the column to be treated.
According to the present invention there is provided apparatus for the continuous deodorising, disinfecting and possible removal of inserts of and from columns of rubbish chutes, laundry chutes and ventilation shafts, the apparatus comprising a horizontally-disposed conduit connectible into the wall of the column to be treated, a fan arranged in the conduit at the end remote from the column, and a wick constantly fed with a volatile active liquid extending laterally into the conduit between the fan and column, the fan serving to direct air from the exterior to the interior of the column thereby causing evaporation of the volatile liquid by passing across the wick and entraining vapours into the column.
Thus, if the fan operates continuously, there is, to the interior of the column to be treated, a continuous circulation of active vapours, that is to say vapours of a disinfecting, deodorising liquid and possibly appropriate pesticide.
An embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
The horizontal conduit 1 which penetrates the wall of the column 2 houses at its end remote from the column 2 a motor driven fan 3, and has screwed into a threaded orifice 4 formed in its side a receptacle 5 containing the active volatile liquid in which is immersed a wick 6. The wick 6 extends laterally into the conduit
1 between the fan 3 and the column 1. The end of the conduit 1 introduced into the column is closed by a grille 7 to avoid, particularly in the case of rubbish chutes, the entry of debris into the conduit 1.
When the receptacle 5 is empty, it is unscrewed from orifice 4 and replaced by another receptacle 5 full of active liquid.
As the volatile active liquid there are cited as examples, essentials oils such as pine, thyme, lemon and castor oil, disinfectants such as orthocresol, dichlorophene and hexachlorophene. However, one may use any liquid or solution sufficiently volatile or a mixture of disinfectant, deodorising an insecticidal products.
The apparatus according to the invention is installed in general at the bottom of columns in which the circulation of air is from bottom to top. However, if it must be installed in a column in which the c-irculaticfl of air is forced from top to bottom, ;gt will be manifest that the appa ratus Wifjbe located in the upper part of the coXusnn.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: - I. - Apparatus for the continuous deodorising, disinfecting and possible removal of insects of and from columns of rubbish chutes, - laundry chutes and vetilation shafts, the apparatus comprising a horizontally-disposed conduit connectible into the wall of the column to be treated, a fan arranged in the conduit at the end remote from the column, and a wick constantly fed with a volatile active liquid extending laterally into the conduit between the fan and column, the fan serving to direct air from the exterior to the interior - of the column thereby causing evaporation of the volatile liquid by passing across the wick and entraining vapours into the column.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, in which the wick is immersed'in a volatile
active liquid contained in a receptacle re
movably secured on the exterior of the
conduit. at an orifice in the wall of the
conduit.
3. Apparatus according to claim 1 or 2,
in - which the volatile liquid is a solution
of a deodorising, disinfecting and insecti
cidal product or a mixture of products.
4. Apparatus according to any one of
claims 1 to 3, in which the volatile active
liquid is selected from pine, thyme, lemon
and.castor oil, and orthocresol, dichloro - phene and hexachlorophene.
5. Apparatus for the continuous de
odorising, disinfecting and possible removal
of insects of and from columns of rubbish
chutes, laundry chutes and ventilation
shafts, substantially as hereinbefore de
scribed with reference to the accompany
ing drawing. ~
