Abstract

156,293. Perry, S. Aug. 22, 1919, Shafts are moved axially and rotated, while being forged between dies, by two adjustable beadstocks on a carriage supported by the lower die or anvil 29. The work is gripped between removable devices 6 having non-circular shanks engaging sockets 7 with axial springs which yield as the work lengthens. One or both the spindles 8 are rotated, by handles 13, in bearings 17 which can be adjusted vertically, by screws 34, to free the work from the die 29 for rotation or insertion of necking dies in grooves 26. The bearings 17 supported by springs 19 on slides 14 which are adjusted by bolt holes 33 and by screw and nut 3, 5 on the carriage 28 which runs on track 20 and is moved by pinion and rack 23.
