Connecting-rods. - The big end of the connecting-rod of a compressed-air engine &c. is so formed that it is retained in position by a bush inserted in the annular space between it and the crank-pin. The big end 9, Fig. 1, may be formed with a slot 11 to enable it to be passed on to the crank pin, after which it is secured by the insertion of the bush. As shown in Fig. 6, a part of the crank web 12 is cut away to enable the halves 17, 18 of the bush to be inserted. The bush may be secured by a split ring sprung into a groove in the crank web 12, or, where two big-ends are mounted on one crank-pin, by a split pin engaging a groove in the bush between the two bigends. Rotation of the bush may be prevented by making the outer half-bush 17 longer than the crank-pin, so that it engages the shoulders on the web 12, as shown. The half-bush is secured by a split pin 23, or otherwise.
