Abstract

155,649. Wallander, E. H. Sept. 23, 1919. Scotch - blocks; skid.-A device for stopping railway cars comprises a bar 8, 9, of angle section adapted to be placed on the rail and provided with a hollow head 11 having a segmental face piece 14 pivoted thereto at 15. The piece 14 is normally forced outwardly by a spring 18. In use, the car wheel mounts the bar 8, 9 and engages the face piece 14. The spring 18 after cushioning the blow and stopping the car pushes it off the device. Both flanges of the bar 8, 9 are bevelled at 10 to facilitate the mounting of the device by the car wheel.
