Abstract

The flat sifter serves for separating granular particles into different fractions by screening and for eliminating constituents of lower specific gravity, such as clays or dust, by means of controlled airflows. The object is to overcome the disadvantages of the grit-cleaning machine, such as large dimensions, a high energy consumption and a complicated construction, and to utilise the advantages of the flat sifter, such as a compact design and a low energy consumption. The screening stack (2) performs the functions of classifying and cleaning. Classifying takes place in the known screening frames having an inserted screen. Cleaning is carried out in special cleaning boxes (1, 3) before and after classifying. Air flows through the cleaning boxes in such a way that it is possible to suck off the parts of lower specific gravity. Adaptation to different operating conditions is possible by means of various throttling members (5, 10). Sectors of use are corn milling, the food industry and the chemical industry. <IMAGE>
