Abstract

The apparatus is attached to a butt-welding machine which contains one hydraulic cylinder (21) each for clamping the individual parts to be welded together in clamping jaws (24), hydraulic upsetting cylinders (33), blades (25) for cutting off the flash, and a first hydraulic reversing slide (28) which controls simultaneous clamping and complete release of the two individual parts to be welded. A second hydraulic reversing slide (26) is provided which is connected between the first hydraulic reversing slide (28) and the piston rod-side cylinder space (22) of a clamping cylinder (21). This clamping cylinder (21) is here connected to the pair (24) of clamping grips with blades (25) fastened to them. By means of a control apparatus of this type, one of the cylinders for clamping a part to be welded can be switched on in such a way that, after the upsetting operation is complete, the clamping force can be removed from this part without the latter having to be completely released. <IMAGE>
