Abstract

Covers, wagon.-The cover of a railway wagon or like vehicle is attached to a central support a mounted upon end brackets c which are vertically adjustable simultaneously to suit loads of varying heights by means of screw-threaded rods f and bevel-gearings h, i, and means are provided on the wagon for housing the cover. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the central support a is in the form of a spring roller, on which both half sections of the cover may be wound. Covers for the ends of the wagon may be attached to the brackets c and unwound from end rollers as the brackets are raised. The brackets are formed with end portions e embracing. the threaded rods f and pass through guides d, pins being additionally used for firmly supporting the brackets in any adjusted position. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the spring roller is replaced by a plain bar carrying pivoted double hooks n, which can either be turned at rightangles to the bar to receive the rolled-up portions of the cover, or parallel to the bar when the cover is spread out. When the wagon is being loaded or unloaded. the bar may be detached and the hooks n supported on the sides of the wagon.
