To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GUsrAr A. LIND STROM and Gnonen SENN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Green Bay,
in the county of Brown and State of Wis consi-n, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Exercisers, of which the following is a specification.
Our inventionis an improvement in "exercisers, an'dhas for its object to provide a device of the -character specified, which may be connected to the topof an ordinary door-way, without marri-ng the finish of the frame of the door-way, and which when so connected, will provide a horizontal bar firmly held in place and capable of supporting any reasonable weight that may be put upon it.

In the present embodiment of the invention, there is provided a bar, a hanger for the bar, and a pair of abutments for the ends of the bar. The. bar is a rod 1, having arranged thereon sleeves 2, the sleeves fitting smoothly upon the rod, and being" spaced apart at their adjacent ends by the hanger. The hanger as shown more particularly in 45 Figure at consists of a substantially U-shaped member or yoke composed of a body 3 and arms 4, both body and arms being T-shap'ed in. cross section, and at the center of the body there is provided a transverse opening 50 for receiving the rod 2. The ends of the sleeve abut the web of the body and each of the arms 4 hasa bearing" 5 at its free end. One of these bearings holds a pin 6,
and through the othera'screw'? is threaded, 55 the inner ends of the pin and sc ew being pointed, while the outer end of 'the screw has a cross head as shown for facilitating the turning of the same.
There is provided, in the ordinary construction of door-ways, a transverse stud or cross beam 8 at the top of the casing, the said beam connecting the side members 9 of the casing. This beam is faced by strips 10 on its underface and at its side, and molding 11 is arranged at the top of the side faces. y I,
A pair of clamping members indicated at 12 is connected with the top of the casing, each ofthe said hangers being a plate having its upper end bent to form a hook 18 which will engage above the molding as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4. The inner face of each of these plates 1-2 is faced with a strip 14; of soft material, as for instance, felt or the like, to prevent abrasion of the facing or the molding. The bill of the hook 13 extends substantially perpendicular to the body of the plate, and this hook engages above the molding, as shown, thebody of the hook fitting against the side facings 10.
The outer face of the plate 12 is provided with a'ver'tically arranged series of openings 15, and each of these openings is shaped to fit the ends 'ofth'e pin 6 or the ends of the screw 7. In order to connect the hanger, the clamping plates are placedon each side of the casing and top, with the hooks engaging over the molding and the top of the facing. The yoke is now placed asshown in Figure 4, the screw being; loosened to permit thepin 6 to engage one of the openings 15 of the adjacent plate.
The screw 7 is now engaged with a corresponding opening of the other clamping plate, and the screw is tigl'itened. The tightening of the screw not only clamps the clamping plate on the casing, but also clamps the yoke on the plates. By engaging the screw and pin with different openings, the
yokem'ay he adjusted vertically.
This hanger provides a support for the bar, but means is provided for preventing swinging of the same under a weight, the
said means being in the form of abutments at each endof the taper. The abutments are sectional, each consisting of an upper section 16 and a lower section17. The upper section 16 of each abutment isan angle p ate,
having one, portion adapted to fit against the 'underface of the cross member of the "casin -v and a vertical ortion de aendin b7 b therefrom. The upper face of the first named portion is faced with a facing 18 of felt or the like.
The depending portion of the section has a slot 19, and the section 17 has an opening 20 adapted to register with the slot 19 to receive a bolt 21. This bolt is engaged'by a wing nut 22 on the outer face of the depending portion of the section 16. By means of this bolt and nut, the sections may be adjusted with respect to each other, and referring to Figure 8, it will be seen that the opening 20 is polygonal'to fit the bolt, but to prevent turning of the bolt when the nut is turned.
The section 17 also has an opening 23 for permitting the passage of the rod 1 of the bar, and nuts 24 are threaded onto the rod outside of the sections 17. By means of these nuts, the sections 17 may be tightly clamped against the ends of the sleeves 2, the inner ends of the sleeves abutting the web of the yoke body.
The horizontal portions of the sections 16 abut the casing, and prevent any lateral movement of the bar under stress. Each of the sections 17 is provided at its lower end with an opening 25, and these openings may be engaged by hooks 26 on flexible members 27 which support at their lower ends a seat 28 providing a swing.
When it is desired to use the bar as a bar, for swinging exercises, the swing may be removed merely by unhooking the hooks 26. The entire structure may be easily removed from the door, merely by loosening the screw 7. Thus the entire structure is held by the one screw.
7e claim:
1. A device of the character specified, comprising a bar and a hanger for the bar, said hanger consisting of a yoke having an opening through its body portion for the bar, one of the arms of the yoke having an inwardly extending pin, and a screw threaded through the other arm, and clamping plates having hooks for engaging above the molding of a door casing and adapted to fit against the opposite faces thereof, said plates having openings in their outer faces for engagement by the pin and screw, and abutments connected with the outer ends of the bar and abutting the underface of the top of the casing and adjustable in length, each of said abutments comprising sections, one of which abuts the underface of the door casing and the other of which is connected bar, one of the arms of the yoke having an inwardly extending pin, and a screw ing plates having hooks for engaging above the'molding of a door casing and adapted to fit against the opposite faces thereof, said plates having openings in their outer faces for engagement by the pin and screw, and abutments connected with the outer ends of the bar and abutting the underface of the top of the casing and adjustable in length, each of said abutments comprising sections, one of which abuts the underface of the door casing and the other of which is connected with the bar, said sections being adjustably connected. A device of the character specified, comprising a bar and a hanger adapted to support the bar at its center, said hanger consisting of a yoke having a transverse opening through its body portion for the bar, one of the arms of the yoke having an in wardly extending pin, and a screw threaded through the other arm, and clamping plates having hooks for engaging above the molding of a door casing and adapted to fit against the opposite faces thereof, said plates having openings in their outer facesforengagement by the pin and screw, and sectional abutments connected with the outer ends of the bar and abutting the underface of the top of the casing and coacting means carried by the sections whereby they may threaded opening through the other arm,
and clamping plates having hooks for engaging above the molding of a door casing and adapted to fitagainst the opposite faces thereof, said plates having a vertical series of sockets in their outer faces for engagement by the pin and screw whereby the yoke may be vertically adjusted.
5. A device of the character specified, comprising a bar and a yoke hanger for the bar, adapted for connection with the cross member of a door frame to support the bar in spacedrelation to the frame, and abutments for supporting the ends of the bar and adapted to engage the said cross memher to prevent swinging of'the ends, said yoke hanger and abutments being sectional,
the sections of the abutments being adjust able with respect to each other, and the'sections of the yokehanger also adjustable with respect to each other. H g
6. An exercising apparatus comprising a horizontal bar, an extensible hanger supporting the bar at its center, and adapted for connection with the cross beam of a door frame, and extensible abutments or brackets supporting said bar at its ends and preventing swinging of the same, said abutments supported from the cross beam of the door frame.
7. An exercising apparatus comprising a horizontal bar, sleeves fitted on said bar at each side of its center and extending to adjacent its ends, an adjustable hanger adapted for connection With the cross beam of a door frame, said hanger supporting said bar at its center between the inner ends of the said sleeves adjustable abutments or brackets secured to the cross beam of the door frame and supporting the outer ends of said horizontal bar, the outer ends of the sleeves abutting said abutments and means cooperatively engaging the outer ends of the bar and the abutments to hold said bar in place.
