Abstract

154,353. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Paige-Detroit Motor Car Co.). Sept. 2, 1919. Mounting and securing reserve tyres and wheels on vehicles.-A second cross-bar E is fitted between the side bars A and behind the ordinary rear cross-bar B of a motor-vehicle and serves (1) to support a spare-wheel or spare-rim carrier G, (ii) to carry an angle-bracket F<1> which, with two similar angle-brackets F carried by the cross-bar B, gives a three-point support to the petrol tank D, Fig. 6, and (iii) forms a reinforcement for the vehicle frame. The demountable-rim carrier G is bolted by means of lugs to the cross-bars B and E, and carries a face-plate I secured to its free end by bolts J. On the face plate are secured three radial arms L, Fig. 3, to which the rim is fastened in any suitable way. The face plate I may be replaced by a support M. Fig. 5, adapted to receive the hub of a sparewheel, which is secured thereon by means of a nut engaging the threaded end M<1>.
