Abstract
153,933. Graham, G. July 3, 1919. Screw sockets. - Rivets for use in at. taching rubber soles and heels, or sole and heel protectors to boots and shoes, consist of a stem a, Fig. 1, a flange a<1> and a bifurcated head a<2>. The flange prevents the rivet working into the leather and the bifurcated head is hammered down to hold the rubber sole &c. into which it is countersunk. The flange a<1> may be replaced by a simple shoulder and the bifurcated head by a several pronged head. In a modification an ordinary rivet is used in conjunction with a flanged sleeve, Fig. 4, the edges of which are split so that they can be turned down as shown in Fig. 8. In a modification, Fig. 10, the sleeve is internally tapered and has split sides e<6> which can be driven outwards.
