b -Dialkylaminoethyl-p-aminobenzoic alkyl esters are prepared by the reaction of b -chlorethyldialkylamines on p-aminobenzoic alkyl esters. Examples are given of the preparation of b -diethylaminoethyl-p-aminobenzoic methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, isobutyl, and isoamyl esters, and of b -dimethylaminoethyl-p-aminobenzoic butyl ester. Butyl-p-aminobenzoate employed in the above reaction is prepared by esterification of p-aminobenzoic acid with butyl alcohol, or by esterifying p-nitrobenzoic acid with butyl alcohol and reducing the product. Isoamyl-p-aminobenzoate is prepared by esterification of p-aminobenzoic acid with isoamyl alcohol.
