Abstract

1536052 Securing buttons in padded articles B N SHEADER (S Ayrteknik Olof Nestemus G B) 19 April 1977 [12 March 1976] 10010/76 Heading DIG Apparatus for securing buttons in padded articles comprises knotting means rotatable about an axis and having means for holding a button with its eye projecting from the knotting means, means for passing a doubled length of thread through the eye, a shoulder rotatable with the knotting means to engage one of the doubled lengths to form a loop about the shoulder providing means, guide means to guide a portion of the doubled length through the loop, and means for drawing the portion through the loop to form the knot. To secure a button 17, Fig. 3, held in the rotatable knotter, and button 18 held with presser foot 15, on either side of padded article 16, needle 19 carries thread through the buttons, and hook 20 is rotated to secure button 18 as shown in Fig. 6. The rotatable knotter comprises pivotable button holding jaws 12, Fig. 1, arcuate wall 10 having shoulder 11 and open-ended slot 12, cam 13 and ejector 14. When the knotting means is rotated clockwise, Fig. 9, shoulder 11 forms thread loop 22 about wall 10 which thread portions 23 pass along slot 12 and are projected partially through loop 22 by cam 13. Hook 24, Fig. 10, then hooks the projecting part and draws portions 23 through the loop. The thread is then severed between the knotting means and needle, and the free end drawn through the loop to form the knot. Ejector 14 is moved to disengage the loop from shoulder 11.
