Purifying and refining. -Wrought iron is made by heating a charge of pig and scrap mixed with iron ore or oxide in a wrought iron or steel container constructed so as to facilitate the escape of slag and gases formed during the boil. The container consists of a divided shell or casing A resting upon a base-plate B and held in position by lugs E, and eventually unites with the charge. According to the Provisional Specification, acetic acid may be used as a refining-material.
