1535206 Operating vehicle brakes from track WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO Ltd 25 Oct 1976 [8 Nov 1975] 46301/75 Heading B7N In a rail vehicle switch arrangement for operating the vehicle brakes from the track a normally vertically disposed trip lever 2 is engaged by a stop on the track and is pivoted counter-clockwise, with its support shaft and shaft mounted cam members 4, 5, against the action of springs 14, 15 in cylinder 12, whereby cam member 4 co-operates with an end of latch lever 26 to rotate the lever so that a corner 33 on the lever moves out of detent 31 on switch lever 21 and engages detent 32 and latches the lever 21 in a position in which it actuates switch 20 in the brake circuit. At the same time cam member 5 engages the end of arm 24 to latch the trip lever 2 in its counterclockwise position. The switch is released and the arm returned by operating a pneumatic plunger 34 which via rod 35 rotates lever 23 and hence lever 24 whereby the trip lever is unlatched and returned to its vertical position and pin 28 on lever 24 engages switch lever 21 to release the switch and return the switch lever and latch lever 26 to their initial positions. If the lever is turned in the opposite direction when, e.g., trailing a track stop the movement is taken up by compression of spring 15 and any overshoot of the lever on return to its vertical position is opposed by both springs 14, 15.
