1535103 Distillation of metals ENERGIAGAZDALKODASI INTEZET 6 Dec 1976 50787/76 Heading C7D [Also in Division H5] Metals are recovered from ores or alloys by a distillation process which involves interacting a mixture of comminuted metal ore or alloy with oxygen or air together with a plasma beam formed from a non-combustible or inert natural gas, to evaporate the metal(s) to vapour(s) and pass the metallic vapours through a series of cooling chambers whose walls are cooled to the melting points of the individual metals, thereby precipitating each metal separately. The natural gas preferably used contains mainly CO 2 , and the only purification necessary is to remove the water vapour. The plasma generator may be of a commercially-known type.
