1534729 Road-traffic signalling P E TUFFET 7 April 1976 [9 April 1975] 14143/76 Heading G4Q For affording on a road vehicle a signal S representative of the legal speed limit in the section beyond a pair of magnetic road barriers, a count of actual-speed tachometer pulses between instants of detection of each of the pair is made to give, a signal X representative of the barrier-pair spacing and signal X is converted into signal S. In the embodiment the vehicle's detector feed circuits 2, 3 to afford standardized rectangular pulses for positive and negative half waves respectively; circuit 6 produces a pulse pair 12 corresponding to a correct barrier pulse pair for a circuit 8 fed also with tachometer pulses 10; and a display 15 of the legal speed limit (proportional to the spacing of the magnetic barriers in a pair) is afforded. If the vehicle's speed is higher a visible and/or audible alarm is raised, or speed is automatically reduced. Storage of the latest speed limit is arranged. Magnetic barrier close spacing may be sensed for road sign indication. A circuit 21 provides for erasure of speed limit indication when the next road section is derestricted.
