Abstract

1534586 Desulphurizing iron KLOCKNERWERKE AG 25 June 1976 [11 July 1975] 26474/76 Heading C7D Molten pig iron is desulphurized by injecting, by means of an immersed lance, a mixture of calcium carbide, calcium cyanamide or lime together with aluminium or magnesium, each of the additives having a particle size of 0À1 mm. When calcium carbide is used the mixture preferably contains 60-85% of metallic deoxidant, otherwise the content should be 0À5-3À5%. The additive may be injected in nitrogen, argon or a reducing gas, particularly natural gas, or a mixture of these.
