Abstract

1533842 Pickup arm STRATHEARN AUDIO Ltd 30 Oct 1975 [30 Oct 1974] 47030/74 Heading G5R A pick up arm comprises a stylus carrying part 8, a counterweight carrying part 14 and a central part forward of a middle portion 26 of magnetic material and a pair of permanent magnets 24, 25, the arm being mounted at said central part for movement about horizontal pivot bearings on a yoke assembly including pairs of permanent magnets 32, 33 and 34, 35, a core member 28 carrying bearing 42 and coils 36, 37. By varying the current applied to the coils via leads 20 from control unit 19 the arrangement provides a stylus pressure control and the control unit also has means for varying the current in response to the level of the played back signal on lines 18 so that the pressure can be increased to maintain record groove-stylus contact during loud passages. The yoke can be mounted on control element 16 for controlling horizontal movement of the pick up arm as described in Specification 1,522,473.
