Abstract

153,332. Head, R., and Baker & Sons, J. July 9, 1917. Conical mills; impact pulverizers. - In a mill for grinding food or similar substances such as pressed cocoa cake, the material is fed by a screw or propeller into engagement with cooperating beaters or reducers within a conical mill, where at the same time it is acted upon by a continuous current of air produced by a fan mounted coaxially with the moving member of the mill, the air serving to cool and aerate the material and also to effect its passage through the mill. The apparatus comprises an open-ended casing a having beaters or reducers a<1> of varying length within which rotates a conical member c provided with co-operating beaters d and mounted on a shaft b. The beaters d are secured by means of stems d<1> in slots in the cone and are held in place by slots d<2>. At the broad end of the cone is secured a covering-ring e, comprising segments similar to the beaters a<1>, which co-operates with the outermost beaters to effect the ejection of the material. At the feed end the shaft b carries a screw or propeller f for feeding the material, and a fan g located in a casing g<1> having means for regulating the air current. The material is supplied to the mill by suitable means such as a hopper h and a feed-worm h<1>.
