Abstract

1531806 Electro-chemical drilling TRW Inc 25 May 1976 21688/76 Heading C7B Electro-chemical drilling in which cathodic electrolyte is impinged upon an anodic workpiece from a hollow insulating cathode utilizes a negative DC with superimposed negative pulses having a ripple of 75-600% of the DC component, the pulses constituting the sole source of drilling current and having an amplitude below the spark discharge threshold. A sawtooth pulse of frequency 60-720Hz may be used having an RMS voltage of 100-800 and negative peaks up to 1200V. The drilling gap may be fixed and the voltage and current periodically increased, particularly at the moment when the hole breaks through the workpiece. Alternatively the drill may move into the hole as drilling proceeds.
