Abstract

1531424 Making filter cigarettes MOLINS Ltd 18 May 1976 [20 May 1975 22 Aug 1975] 21365/75 and 34888/75 Heading A2C Filter cigarettes are made by forming two streams of transversely moving tobacco sections the sections in one stream being parallel to but transversely displaced relative to the sections in the other stream, forming two similar streams of filter portions, arranging the streams so as to produce two rows each comprising transversely moving tobacco section with axially adjacent filter portions, and uniting the axially adjacent filter portions and tobacco sections. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 tobacco sections are fed axially from a cigarette rod machine 10 onto a catcher drum 12 and then transferred to the flutes of a conveyor drum 28, stops being arranged on the catcher drum 12 to produce the staggered arrangement of tobacco sections. The filter portions are fed axially onto the drum 28 in a direction opposite to that of the tobacco. The assemblies of tobacco sections and filters are then fed onto a drum 38 where they are united by a uniting band 40 which has previously been slit longitudinally and separated laterally. In an alternative the two streams of filter portions are produced by feeding two streams of axially aligned portions transversely and transversely displacing filters in one stream.
