Abstract

1529757 Preventing emission of hot gases BRITISH STEEL CORP 6 April 1977 [8 April 1976] 14351/76 Heading F4B A roller seal for the exit or entry of a strip heating furnace comprises a lower roller assembly having at least two separable roller portions. The lower roller assembly may include two spaced apart coaxial rollers 12, and two parallel, axially movable rollers 13. The movement of the rollers 13 allows the entry of a threader device to the furnace. In another embodiment, a central part of the lower roller is pivoted about one end secured to an end part so as to be clear of a threader (Fig. 3). Two end-to-end rollers may be moved apart axially to allow passage of the threader. The movement of the displaceable roller part may be automatically initiated by the approach of the threader, which may be sensed by a light or radiation detector.
