Abstract

1528533 Sheet cutting and ordering apparatus PITNEY-BOWES Inc 26 Feb 1976 [11 June 1975] 07542/76 Heading B8R Apparatus for preparing stacks 30 of collated sheets from an input web 9 comprises a rotating collating drum 10 on which the web is wound a predetermined number of times, and severing means which are held inoperative until the required number of portions of the web are wound on the drum 10; when the wound portions are severed from the web. The drum 10 includes a knife well 15 to receive a blade 19 during a severing operation, and means to hold the free end of the web 9 on the drum 10, such means comprising for example vacuum ports 14 or mechanical grippers. The blade 19 is received in a recess in a drum 17 rotating in synchronism with drum 10 and can be projected for severing by solenoids 23 acting against return springs 22. In operation, the web is wound around the drum 10 a number of times corresponding to one less than the number of sheets required in the stack 30, the additional sheet being severed individually.
