Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

    @ PROCEDE D'ASSEMBLAGE ET DE COUPAGE DE FEUILLES DE PAPIER OU DE

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

    @ PROCESS FOR ASSEMBLING AND CUTTING SHEETS OF PAPER OR
SIMILAR MATERIALS, FROM A CONTINUOUS BAND ', AND DEVICE EXECUTING THIS PROCESS.

   In order to cut to a fixed length and assemble into a bundle of sufficient rigidity for the subsequent transport of sheets of paper or the like, from a continuous web, there have hitherto existed several methods which have consisted, for example, of bring this strip to a knife that cut it.

   After cutting the leaves accumulated one on or under the other, to be removed then several at a time. This process had the drawback, and this among others when it was a question of paper charged with static electricity, which always has a tendency to attach to the parts of the machine, that the edge of cut was braked or folded back and thus impeded the progress of the work.

   This drawback is avoided by the present invention, which relates to a method of assembling and cutting sheets of paper or similar materials, from a continuous strip, and the device performing this method.

   The process is characterized by the fact that the strip of paper respectively of similar materials is fed, lengthwise

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 desired, instead of assembly, before cutting.

   The assembly is done by winding the web of paper or the like. Cutting is done either for each layer separately or for several layers at a time. After the last cut, the bundle of sheets is ejected or removed.

   The device for carrying out this process is characterized by a rotary paper holder, like a hopper, preferably cylindrical, which serves as an assembly site and winds up the strip. In order to be able to vary the length of the sheets to be cut, the paper holder has a variable perimeter. To make the cut, this paper holder is fitted either with a groove into which a serrated knife fits, or with a serrated knife that fits into a groove outside the paper holder, or with continuous-wire blades, which shear the strip using a counter-knife, located outside the paper holder.

   The cooperation of these last two knives can be done in any suitable manner, for example so that the knife of the paper holder is movable and that the counter-knife remains in a fixed position at the time of cutting, or that the knife of the paper holder is securely attached to it, while the counter knife is mobile.

   The different layers of paper are held on the paper holder, for example by means of pins or claws, which release them at the time of ejection.

   In the accompanying drawing, several embodiments of the device according to the present invention are shown schematically by way of example.

   Fig.l shows a side view of the paper holder provided with a groove into which a serrated knife is inserted.

   In fig. 2 the serrated knife is in the paper holder and can fit into a superimposed groove.

   Fig. 3 shows a paper holder provided with a pivoting knife in its cutting position and the superimposed fixed knife.

   Fig. 4 is the representation of a paper holder whose

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 the knife is securely attached to it, while the superposed counter knife can perform a swiveling or rotating movement.

   1 is the cylindrical paper holder mounted on the shaft 2, the layers of paper 3 are held there by pins 4 between which is, in fig.l, the groove 5 which can receive the serrated knife 6.

   In fig. 2, the serrated knife 6 is in the paper holder 1 and can be inserted into the superimposed groove 5. In fig. 3 the swivel knife 7 is in its working position and cuts the layer (s) of paper when going through the fixed knife 8.

   In fig. 4 finally, the knife 9 is still fixed in its working position in the paper holder 1, but the cut is only made when it comes into contact with the pivoting or rotary knife 10.

   Since the web of paper or the like is always already fixed at the assembly point before being cut, there is never a free cutting edge in the machine which could bend or fall back. hang, and the continuous progress of work is thus ensured.
