Abstract

1528531 Bookbinding REINHARD MOHN OHG 12 Feb 1976 [13 Feb 1975] 05536/76 Heading B6A In a method of adhering book parts together, molten fusion adhesive at 150-180‹ C. is applied in a coating up to 20 g./sq. metre to the parts to be joined and is caused or allowed to set. The parts are then positioned as desired, the adhesive is re-heated to 40-180‹ C., e.g. by high frequency or ultrasonic heating, and the adhesive caused or allowed to set to effect the join. The adhesive may be a heterogeneous mix of basic polymer, e.g. 50% ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, adhesive agent resin, e.g. 30% synthetic resin or rosin derivative, and filling and expanding means, e.g. 20% BaSO 4 , CaSO 4 and CaCO 3 . Unspecified softening agents and antioxidants may also be added. The method may be used for the production of book covers using a coated covering material web and coated cardboard sheets and back inserts, for adhering individual pages to each other and to a book cover, and for reinforcing the upper and lower ends of a glued or stapled spine.
