Abstract
1528371 Cyclic phosphonates COURTAULDS Ltd 12 Feb 1976 [13 Feb 1975] 6134/75 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] The invention relates to compounds of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is aryl or substituted aryl, and R<SP>2</SP> is a divalent group containing two aromatic rings, the oxygen atoms of the phosphonate group being bonded to different aromatic rings in the group R<SP>2</SP>; and comprises such compounds per se when R<SP>2</SP> is 2,21-biphenylylene bearing one or two Br atoms on each aromatic ring. Preparation of I: reaction of R<SP>1</SP>POCl 2 with R<SP>2</SP>(OH) 2 in the presence of a base. Use of I: flame retardants for melt-spun synthetic filaments, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate.
