Abstract

1528136 Sequential polymerization of ethylene and propylene MONTEDISON SpA 10 Nov 1975 [14 Nov 1974] 46367/75 Heading C3P A process for the production of polymer compositions comprising isotactic polypropylene and minor amounts of ethylene/propylene copolymers comprises (A) polymerizing propylene in a hydrocarbon medium in the presence of a stereospecific catalyst to yield substantially isotactic polypropylene, (B) copolymerizing ethylene and propylene with a propylene-rich mixture, and (C) copolymerizing ethylene and propylene with an ethylene-rich mixture, the total ethylene content of the final product not exceeding 20% by weight. The propylene content after stage (A) may be adjusted by flashing off excess unreacted monomer and/or addition of propylene with the ethylene feed.
