Abstract

1527753 Preparing polymer-absorbent blends MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 23 Sept 1975 [26 Sept 1974 (2) 27 Sept 1974 28 Sept 1974] 38882/75 Heading C3L [Also in Division C1] Adsorbents used in purifying waste water are prepared by mixing a finely divided substance (i.e. active C or an inorganic compound containing at least one metal selected from Ca, Mg, Zn, Pb, Fe, Al, Ba, Mn, Sn, Sr, Co, Ni, Ti and Cu) with at least 5% by weight of a thermoplastic polymer, optionally with a solvent which dissolves or swells the polymer, heating the mixture in a closed vessel to form a slurry and then extruding the slurry through an orifice into a zone of lower pressure. Polymers specified in Examples are polypropylene, polystyrene, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate and polyacrylonitrile.
