Abstract

1526713 Liquid phase epoxidation TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 May 1977 21040/77 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] A method for the liquid phase epoxidation of an olefin having 2-60 carbon atoms with an organic hydroperoxide comprises intimately contacting the olefin in a tubular reaction zone with hydroperoxide at 90-130‹ C. and a pressure sufficient to maintain product and reactants in the liquid phase in the presence of a shaped catalyst comprising 80-95 wt. per cent of a binary or tenary boride compound of an element of Groups IIa, IIIa, IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa, VIII, IIIb, IVb or Vb intimately bonded by 5-20 wt. per cent of lightly oxidized Al, Zn or Mg powder, with an oxide coating 5-10 vol. per cent of powder. The epoxidation of 1-octene is exemplified.
