1526431 Conveying strip material BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [14 Feb 1975] 6241/75 Heading B8A [Also in Division B4] In a machine for cutting out insole members from laminar strip material S (see Division B4) the strip S is driven to a platen 20 of a cutting die by one of two pairs of pushers 90 (one pusher 90, only, of one pair, visible in Fig. 2). on laterally spaced conveyer chains 64. The start and finish of the travel of the pushers is determined by a cam 98 on one of the chains 64 which engages a microswitch 92. The position of the latter may be arcuately adjusted by clamping it to a selected position along a slot 96 in a plate 94. Operation of the microswitch 92 causes pressure to be cut-off from a cylinder 80 which drives the operating arm 74 of a one-way clutch on the drive shaft 70 of the conveyer chains 64. In a modification (not shown), there are two cams 98 spaced apart along the chain 64 in respect of each pair of pushers 90. The first cam causes the cylinder 80 to be retracted and then to be re-activated at a reduced pressure. The second cam thus has the effect of terminating a second stroke of final slower-speed travel of the pushers 90. When the cylinder 80 is not pressurized the conveyer drive shaft is held stationary by the action of a friction mechanism 78 (Fig. 3). The strip is held in position on a surface 62 while it is being pushed along the latter, by the action of a clamp arrangement 102 carrying rollers 104. The clamp is retracted (when the pushers 90 reach the end of their travel) by the action of a cam (not shown) carried by one of the chains 64, and which operates on a microswitch 108 (Fig. 3). Operation of the latter to retract the clamp 102, also has the effect of applying pressure to a cylinder 124 (Fig. 1) of feed rollers 122, 120. These feed the strip from the platen 20 after the cutting operation, and operate in series with a downstream conveyer 126.
