Abstract

1526054 Fluid regulation WELLAND AND TUXHORN 5 Sept 1975 [10 Sept 1974] 36732/75 Heading G3H [Also in Division F2] An adjustable throttling device for gas or vapour, e.g. steam, comprises inner and outer perforated cylinders 7, 10 with a pack 12 of perforated sleeves 13 or a spirally-wound perforated sheet located therebetween. The holes in adjacent sleeves are staggered so that fluid flowing radially from the central cylinder 7 to the outer cylinder 10 follows a tortuous path and never exceeds one third of the speed of sound, whereby noise reduction is facilitated. The holes in the cylinder 7 may be arranged in helical patterns. Various formulae are given for determining the dimensions of the pack.
