Abstract

1526011 Circuit breakers WESTINGHOUSE EI ECTRIC CORP 11 Feb 1976 [21 Feb 1975 (2)] 05251/76 Heading H1N A multipole circuit breaker has a common operating lever (65, Fig. 1, not shown), a common shaft (37) carrying all moving contacts (23), a bimetallic strip 77, for detecting overcurrent, in each pole and a contact-latching system releasable on engagement of a bimetallic strip 77 with a tripping bar structure, which structure comprises a main bar 95 for performing the tripping movement and an auxiliary bar 97 to be engaged by the bimetallic strips 77, the two bars moving in unison but being adjustably interconnected to enable variation of the spacing between auxiliary bar 97 and bimetallic strips 77, a rotatable cam structure 111, 113, 115 being mounted on the one bar and acting on the other to provide an adjusting means. The two bars are pivotally interconnected. The cam structure includes a rotating shaft 113 that either carries a cam 115 or is eccentrically mounted (Figs. 9-11, not shown) so that it itself provides a camming effect. Its rotation is restricted by shoulders (127, 128, Fig. 8, not shown) or a flange (120, Fig. 9) to less than 360 degrees. The release current of each pole is adjustable by a screw 79 set in the auxiliary tripping bar.
