Abstract

1525937 Polyester/polyamide electrostatic toners XEROX CORP 26 Nov 1975 [19 Dec 1974 (2)] 48597/75 Heading C3R [Also in Division G2] An electrostatic toner comprises a polyamide (P) and a polyester (Q), where (P) is the reaction product of an alkylene or arylene diamine with a dimer or trimer of an unsaturated fatty acid, and (Q) is the reaction product of either (i) a diol and a dicarboxylic acid or (ii) a diol, a polycarboxylic acid, and an alkylene or arylene oxide and/or a glycol. The wt. ratio (P)/(Q) may be from 1/9 to 9. The respective MWs of (P) and (Q) may be 1000-10,000 and 100- 18,000 and their softening points 80-200‹ C. and 40-150‹ C. The blocking temperature of the composition may be 130-150‹ F. Particle size of the toner is 1-30 Ám. Conventional carrier particles, e.g. magnetic or triboeleetric, of size 60-120 mesh (USS) may be present, there being, e.g. 0À5-10 parts by wt. toner per 100 parts carrier. Alternatively, ferromagnetic material may be included in the toner. Also present in the toner may be conventional pigments dyes, and other additives. In use, a latest electrostatic image is developed by application of the toner, and this may then be bonded in place or transferred to a copy sheet by application of heat and/or pressure.
