Abstract
1525467 Attaching by moulding IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 21 May 1976 [9 June 1975] 24635/75 Heading B5A A method of forming a composite article, e.g. a gas transfer tube or a planar article for a rocket motor as shown in Fig. 1 comprises coating a pre-formed part by an aluminium or steel support 10 with an adhesive and then moulding a part, e.g. lining 14 against the adhesive to thereby bond with the preformed part, the moulded part being formed from material having self-release properties, e.g. it contains a mould release agent. The adhesive may be a phenol and the lining 14 may be formed from a phenol/asbestos moulding material. The adhesive may be applied in a solvent, e.g. methylated spirits by spraying, brushing, dipping or by filling and emptying the part 10. The latter may be degreased and shot-blasted to improve bonding. The adhesive may be partially cured so that it remains in place during moulding.
