Abstract

1525419 Laminates ISOVOLTA OSTERREICHISCHE ISOLIERSTOFFWERKE AG 19 May 1976 [21 May 1975] 20731/76 Addition to 1452530 Heading B5N A laminate is produced by impregnating a web of decorative paper in two stages with aqueous melamine resin solutions of different compositions, at least 20% by weight of the melamine resin dissolved in the first impregnant being an etherified melamine resin, and bringing together the web and at least one other web and guiding them under pressure between a heated drum and an endless press belt which moves together with the drum and the webs of material, the web lying nearer to the drum being the impregnated web of decorative paper and the adjoining web consisting of vulcanized fibre or an impregnated cardboard, the speed of the belt and the temperature of the drum being so chosen that the residence time of the webs in a pressing region between the drum and the belt is sufficient for curing the melamine resin. The first impregnant preferably contains at least 3% by weight of a water-soluble polyester resin and the second impregnant preferably contains at least 3% by weight of a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycol or sorbitol. The paper may be dried between the two impregnation steps. Pressure between the belt and heated drum may be 2-10 Kp/sq. cm.
