Abstract

1525222 Controlling temperature of fluidised bed A PEARCE 5 Aug 1975 [5 May 1974] 51281/73 Heading B1 [Also in Division F4] The operating temperature of a fluidised bed, e.g. an incinerator, is controlled by displacing shields 11 surrounding heat transfer tubes 8 within the bed so that the heat transfer characteristics are changed. Gases may be passed through the shields 11 which may be moved together or individually. The heat transfer tubes may have an inner supply pipe 7 and an outer pipe 8 and the shield may move over them from the closed ends of the pipes 8, or the shields and the heat exchange pipes may pass through the distributor plate of the fluidised bed. The heat exchange tubes 25 may lead from a leader 26 below the distributor plate 2 to a collector leader 27, the shields 20 passing through the distributor plate and shielding part of the tubes 25, Fig. 4. The tubes may form a steam generater.
