Abstract
1524153 Automatic control of attitude MARCONI CO Ltd 3 March 1977 [20 March 1976] 11314/76 Heading G3R A directional device 2, e.g. antenna, laser, TV camera or infrared sensor, is carried by a platform 1 in the form of a frame mounted on orthogonal pairs of gimbals 4, 5 and 6, 7. Rate of movement gyro devices 9 are mounted on the frame 1 and supply signals to a feedback system for energizing torque motors incorporated in the gimbals 5, 6 so as to stabilize the platform in azimuth and elevation. Command signals are introduced by a joystick controller 10. The shafts of gimbals 4, 7 are encoded 11 so that co-ordinate signals can be fed by optical readers 12 to a weapon firing control system 15. Solenoid plungers automatically lock the gimbals when the device is not in use.
