Abstract
1,222,694. Sights for guided missiles. MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM G.m.b.H. 20 May, 1968 [24 May, 1967], No. 23992/68. Heading F3C. An aiming and follow up device for remotecontrolled missiles is mounted in an armoured wall and comprises a periscope 18 mounted for elevation on two bearings 2 and for training on a rotatably mounted frame 4. The bearings 2 may carry mountings 37 for the missiles. The periscope 18 may be locked to a support 1 as by a magnetic device (Fig. 3, not shown) for training with the frame 4 or unlocked from the support so that it may be trained by itself. In the construction shown, the periscope is mounted in an aperture 10 eccentric of the frame 4, the frame being rotatably mounted on a vehicle (Fig. 2, not shown). The periscope may be held in an elevated and trained position by two brakes 13 each under the control of a lever 19 of handles 6, 9. The periscope contains an optical arrangement whereby the beam entering the same is split, one part of the beam continuing to the eyepiece and the other beam to an infra-red locating device such that with the target image in the eyepiece the missile is guided by the locating device (Fig. 4, not shown). The top mirror of the periscope is tiltable about a horizontal axis.
