Abstract

The helicopter mounted television camera can transmit images immediately and directly to a fixed or mobile ground reception unit and is intended for civilian or military use. The camera is fixed to the helicopter and can rotate through 360 deg. in azimuth, in either direction, and without limitation on the number of turns. It can also rotate through about 180 deg. in elevation. The camera rotation controlled by an optical-mechanical servo-system and without any intervention from the operator. The system compensates automatically for any displacement of the helicopter from the area being viewed and keeps the camera directed at the area.
