Abstract
1523983 Electrode replacement and slime removal in electrowinning ONAHAMA SEIREN KK 29 April 1976 17470/76 Heading C7B Anode and cathode sheets in electrowinning, each suspended in a parallel alternating vertical array, are conveyed as follows, to and from a parallel series of rows of cells. The array is conveyed to a starting point and from thence to a desired cell by a hoist mounted for movement along a travelling bridge which spans the series of cells and travels on rails mounted level with the tops of the cells. The hoist is also used to remove electrodes and convey them to a removal point. As described, the anode and cathode sheets are set up as independent parallel arrays suspended from parallel chain conveyers, and a second hoist collects each set to form the alternating array and conveys this to a truck which travels on rails alongside the cells for conveying the array to the hoist of the bridge. A second truck on rails and a further hoist may be provided enabling independent supply and removal operations. Slime removal A truck mounted for reciprocation along the length of the bridge referred to above has an extensible suction pipe which is moved along the base of the cell while hot water is discharged at the cell bottom at its edges from pipes movable with the suction pipe. Slime thus removed is discharged into a channel on the bridge which itself discharges into a fixed trough alongside the cells.
