1,240,908. Electrolytic treatment of moving strip. C. J. WENNBERGS MEKANISKA YERKSTAAD AB. May 6, 1969 [May 6, 1968], No.23171/69. Heading C7B. A metallic article, e.g. steel strip 1, is electrolytically treated moving through a plurality of electrolysis cells 10 having bi-polar current conduction, each cell being either the anode 6 or cathode 2 in alternating sequence with the electrode gap decreasing in the direction 13 of movement of the article. As shown, the cells are in the form of wedge-shaped boxes in which the electrodes are secured on or form the straight or curved roof and floor which are inclined towards each other in the direction of movement. Preferably the electrolyte, e.g. aqueous Na 2 SO 4 solution for electropickling or a CuSO 4 -M 2 SO 4 bath for electrodeposition, flows through each cell in the opposite direction 12 to the article movement from inlet 7 to outlet 5 to be returned via a regenerating plant 14 for cleaning, off-gassing, cooling or heating the electrolyte.
