Abstract

1523798 Packaging poultry MACHINEFABRIEK MARKERT BV 31 Oct 1975 45413/75 Heading B8C Apparatus for packaging poultry in a bag comprises a pusher 34 suspended from an endless conveyer belt 28 to engage the legs of a bird 4 to push it through a tube 8 into a bag 23, an arm 38 on the pusher to clamp the legs against the pusher, a stop plate 50 movable into a bird stopping position when a bird engages a plate 48, the pusher moving the legs against the sides of the bird while it is stopped, jaws 16, (17) at the front, funnel end of the tube 8 and insertable into a bag to open it fully, and pins 26 to retain a bag while it is being filled and to allow the bag to be released (as by tearing) when the pusher pushes the bird against the bag bottom. The birds are manually inserted into trays 7 on a conveyer 6. Each tray has pivoted jaws 57 on a carrier plate 44 to hold the .legs. When the pusher 34 engages the legs the plate 44 is pivoted forwardly and the jaws release the legs. The clamping arm 38 is controlled by a cam 41. Movement of the bird into the tube 8 actuates a switch 49 to activate a suction nozzle 27 to raise the top of the uppermost bag and a blowing nozzle 46 to inflate the bag. The stop plate is raised pneumatically and is released when the pusher exerts a set pressure. A table 22 supporting the bags is raised by a bag thickness after each cycle. The conveyer 6 may feed birds to two side-byside packaging lines adjusted to different size birds.
