Abstract

1523020 Explosive compositions AECI Ltd 29 Dec 1976 [27 Jan 1976] 54237/76 Heading C1D A slurry explosive composition comprises an inorganic oxidizing salt, water, and a sensitizing agent comprising a homogeneous mixture including a soluble fuel and an auxiliary sensitizing compound which is soluble in the fuel and/or in water. The soluble fuel may be one or more of dimethyl sulphoxide, thiourea, sugar, glycerol, formamide, dimethyl formamide, and methanol and the auxiliary sensitizing compound one or more of ethylene glycol mononitrate, methyl nitramine, and ethylene dinitramine. The density may be controlled by adding a combination of ethoxylated ammonium lauryl sulphate and higher aliphatic amines to retain entrapped gas bubbles, or by other specified means. Other ingredients referred to are ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, wood meal, guar gum as a thickening agent, potassium pyroantimonate and other specified cross-linking agents, acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer, aluminium powder, urea, and cellulosic flours.
