Abstract
1522322 Air-heater-blower for ventilating an underground installation T A PELSUE CO 28 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 44280/75 Heading F4S and F4V A portable heater-blower assembly 10 (e.g. for blowing air through a manhole 16 into an underground installation) has (a) a blower subassembly 12 comprising an electric-motor driven fan (52, Fig. 2, not shown) and (b) a heater sub-assembly 14 comprising two gas burners 66, Fig. 8, (one only being shown in this figure) which are actuated electrically by means of circuitry illustrated in Fig. 13 (not shown). The circuitry includes switches (90, 94) which actuate valves (86, 84, Fig. 12, not shown) whereby gas can be supplied to just one or to both burners, an igniter 92, Fig. 8, a flame sensor 96 and a thermal switch 98, Fig. 5, which stops operation of the burners in the event of overheating. The two sub-assemblies 10 and 12 can be transported separately and then be coupled together for use. An outlet 22 from the blower subassembly telescopes into an inlet 38 to the heater sub-assembly, and is held in position by a spring latch 40. Electric power is supplied to the blower sub-assembly by a cord 24. The electric power required by the heater subassembly is taken from the blower sub-assembly via a socket 32, Fig. 5, plug 30 and cord 28. The arrangement is such that, when the air inlet 38 of the heater sub-assembly is connected to the air outlet 22 of the blower sub-assembly, the plug 30 cannot be disconnected from its operative position, disconnection being prevented by a step 34 in a base 36. Hot combustion gases from the burners 66 pass through heat exchangers 100, Fig. 8 (and Figs. 11 and 12, not shown), while the air to be heated flows over the heat exchanger's external surfaces. The spent combustion gases are exhausted through a chimney 70.
