1521788 Sintered boron nitride MOSKOV HIMIKO-TEKHNOLOGICHE INST IM DI MENDELEEVA 6 July 1976 27989/76 Heading C7D Sintered hexagonal BN articles are formed from a compacted powder mixture of BN and 1-5 wt. per cent of a dopant which forms a liquid phase during sintering, e.g. oxides or borates of Mg, Ca, Y, La, packing the compact in a first layer of a material inert to BN and an outer layer of carbonaceous material and sintering at 1600-1800‹C in an oxidizing atmosphere. The dopant is volatilized during sintering.
