1521744 Putlogs AGALME (GENERAL ENGS) Ltd 7 June 1976 [5 June 1975] 24328/75 Heading E1S A scaffolding putlog comprises an elongate member 1, with a plate end 5 having a projection 7 at one side in the same plane to engage behind a wall brick 6, and with at the other end a two-part clamp having a part-circular jaw 10 fixed to the elongate member 1 and a part-circular jaw 9 pivoted to the fixed jaw and being clampable to a circular cross-section scaffolding pole by a pivoted bolt 9a, the clamp being arranged so that the axis of its orifice is perpendicular to and spaced from the longitudinal axis of the elongate member 1 and so that the pivoted bolt is closer to the plate end than to the clamp pivot. The putlog is formed from channel section with the flanges cut away to form the plate end. The projection 7 may be formed by bending a portion of the flange into the plane of the web or it may be welded on it. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a section of a length greater than the width of a brick is cut out of the web leaving a projection at the end. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a U-shaped cut out in the projection assists in the removal of surplus mortar, and a bevel at the top edge of the plate end assists when insertion is made into an existing wall. The channel section may be attached to a scaffolding pole to form a circular cross-section putlog.
