152,028. B÷hn, I. Oct. 7, 1919, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Excavating; slitting-apparatus.-Stone slabs or bricks are cut from solid rock by cutters positively connected to crank or like reciprocating mechanism. The front face of the rock is first smoothed and narrow vertical grooves are blasted at each end of the face, which is then undercut and afterwards cut vertically and horizontally; a final vertical cut parallel to the face detaches the separate blocks or slabs. The machine shown comprises a carriage 1 movable on rails 12 and carrying cutting devices 2, 3. The device 2 comprises holders 5 reciprocated by a motor 11, gearing 10, 9, crank 8, link 7 and levers 6, the holders carrying cutters for making horizontal and vertical grooves, or a separate device may be provided for making the vertical grooves. The device 3 carries the cutters for parting the slabs &c. from the rock.
