Abstract

1520275 Waveguide joints MARCONI CO Ltd 4 Aug 1975 [9 Oct 1974] 44918/74 Heading H1W Waveguide parts are accurately connected by means of a cast body of settable material which provides a rigid key between the parts to be connected. The material is a metal alloy having a low melting point and which expands on cooling. As shown, waveguides 6, 7, &c., are joined to a common feeder-block 1, having waveguide passages 2, 3, &c., by means of keys 11 formed by the settable material case into annular grooves 8, 10 formed in the waveguides and the block. A heatable mandrel may be used to melt the key of any waveguide it is desired to remove. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the ends of two waveguides are abutted within a collar to which the waveguides are rigidly attached by annular keys cast into corresponding grooves in the waveguides and the collar. The waveguides are located in the collar by means of a removable mandrel which may be electrically heated.
