Abstract
A crystallizer comprises a copper sleeve (1) having an upper enlarged section (2) and a lower shaping section (3) and a steel casing (4) mounted coaxially to the copper sleeve (1) and forming, together with the latter, a cooling chamber (5). The end-faces of the upper enlarged section (2) are in the form of steel flanges (6, 7) forming together with the upper enlarged section (2) a bimetallic joint and are rigidly fixed to the steel casing (4) mounted coaxially to the upper enlarged section (2) of the copper sleeve (1), whereas the cooling chamber (5) is connected to a cooling channel system provided in the lower shaping section (3) of the copper sleeve (1).
