Abstract
1520258 Destructible core WOCO FRANZ-JOSEF WOLF & CO 5 Sept 1975 [21 Aug 1975] 36616/75 Heading B5A A destructible core is made in one piece with one or more positions at which it can be fractured into a defined number of pieces to allow its removal in several pieces from a moulded article. Fracture points are defined by positions of geometrical weakness (local thinning) or by weak material (e.g. with depolymerization, recrystallization or varying texture). The core is cast from metal or extruded from fibre glass reinforced polyamide, a thermosetting plastics or glass. The core is described as useful for moulding X, Y, T or bent flexible junction tubes by injecting, pressing, dipping or centrifugally dipping methods. Fig. 7, shows a core having a main limb 21 and three branches 2, with geometrical weaknesses 1. A neck 3 and frusto-conical portions 8 define sealing surfaces in the article moulded around the core from soft PVC, an elastic thermoplastics, or an ethylene-propylene-terpolymeride rubber including butadiene and natural rubber. The moulded article is flexed to fracture the core. Operation can be automatic.
